Annapurna Circuit

image74

October 10 - 24, 2020

A classic, world renowned trek around the Annapurna range is a fantastic odyssey. It passes through a great diversity of landscape and encountering various ethnicities along the route. From the trails, you can see many significant peaks like Annapurna I (8091m), the world 10th highest mountain and first peak over 8000m to ever have been climbed by a french team in 1950 ad. Dhaulagiri (8167m) worlds 7th highest, Mount Manaslu (8163m), world's 8th highest, sacred Machhapuchhre 6993m a sacred mountain of climbing limits.  The Annapurna circuit trek follows alongtwo major River valleys. The Marsyangdi river valley was a part of an ancient trade route linking culture long before trekkers ever arrived in this area. The kali Gandaki is considered the deepest George in the world and is also partos an ancient trade route to Tibet. Both valley have distinct features and culture that makes the trekking there an unbelievable trekking of natural and cultural diversity.  Our treks in the Annapurna circuit starts with a scenic drive to chamje from Kathmandu. We begin the trek on a counter clockwise journey of an Annapurna circuit. The culture will change as we make our way up from around 1300m at the starting point to the highest elevation landscape of Manang. It follows many new and pristine trails away from road construction in the area. There is much to explore along the way and around the large village of Manang. We can find the sacred monasteries and side trips to the Milarepa cave and ice lakes and we will even take you to one of the highest lakes in the world Tilicho , if your time and energy allows it. We continue up to the high point of the trip to Thorang la (5416m) and savor the moment of thsi challenging but rewarding accomplishment. Then descend to the western valley Annapurna Circuit to the holy temple of Muktinath, a famous pilgrimage since ancient times. A tour of the site and surrounding villages continues our journey down to Jomsom and south down the River valley. This region is well known for its apple and apricots that brought it the nickname of the Apple pie Circuit.   Following new trails of the road, we make our way down to a hot spring where we can enjoy a relaxing moment admiring the surrounding beauty. At this point, we have the option to visit viewpoints of Khopra, Poonhill and Mohare Dada with a last looks at the astonishing Himalayan range before driving to the Pokhara to celebrate the treks conclusio.

FAQs

What do I need to bring?

We will send you a list after you've registered!  A good backpack, good and broken in hiking boots, trekking poles, at least 4 pairs of good socks, a warm coat, rain gear, sunglasses, sunscreen, a warm hat, and gloves are your basics!  I always carry my own sleeping bag because I get cold under the blankets that are usually available and want to be comfortable.

Visa and Passport?

You will need a current passport from your country.  Most nationalities are able to purchase a Visa upon arrival in Kathmandu.  You will need a 30 day Visa which costs about $40.  You will need to purchase this on your own at the airport.  US citizens are able to purchase a Visa and enter Nepal with your passport.

Travel Insurance

Choose a policy that covers medical and emergency repatriation, including helicopter evacuation for trekkers and general medical evacuation.  Read the fine print to ensure that your policy doesn't exclude dangerous activities, specifically trekking.  Check Lonely Planet for trusted travel insurance.

Vaccinations

You do not need additional vaccinations to visit Nepal however; current Hep A , Hep B, Rabies, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis, and influence vaccinations are recommended when traveling to Nepal.

What about Malaria?

Malaria is not a concern in the regions that we will visit.  There are pills that you can carry in the case that you believe you have been infected with Malaria.  Speak with your doctor, these have significant side effects and would only be useful if you intend to visit Chitwan or other parts of the Terai region between June and August.

Getting in Shape?

We will encourage you on your jouney, post suggested workouts on our FB page and send them by e-mail.  The most important thing to do is walk daily and build up your mileage.  Carry your pack when you get out for a long walk or a hike!  You can add weight slowly and increase your mileage until your trip departure!
